 · 1) Unlock hubs, ensure by turning the axle shafts behind each tire to ensure they turn freely. 2) Start truck, place in 4wh Hi. Move forward and back a few inches to ensure engagement. 3) Place in park, shut truck off, crawl under and attempt to turn the User Interaction Count: 5.  · if u got automatic front hubs stop put in park pull 4x4 shifter into 4 wheel manual hubs at front wheels turn the hub locks to the lock position and then pull the 4 wheel shifter inti 4 wheel also look over drivers sun visor if the tag aint worn off the direction are there have fun 4 wheeling and keep the rubber side down.  · The way to check if the t-case is engaging is to leave the hubs unlocked (with auto hubs, that can be done by turning to lock and back to Auto after switching to 4x4 - assuming they're working correctly), then crawl underneath and try to turn the front driveshaft.

Manual Hubs usually just need twisted into place (2WD=Free/Unlocked, 4WD=Locked). Main Transmission in Neutral, then shift the 2wd-4WD accordingly. Only use Lo for crawling below 5 Mph basically, Hi is okay to Mph generally tho, probably will see some 4x4s going faster stay safe and use good judgment out there. Locking hub were invented to engage/disengage the front wheels from the front axle shafts. Idea was to keep parts that were not needed in 2WD mode from rotating in order to reduce mechanical drag and thus save gas. Good idea but the savings are extremely minimal. A proposed additional benefit of locking hubs is less wear and tear of front axle. The 4x4 Hubs on a vehicle is the device which engages the axle to the differential. Without the hubs there would be no drive sent to the wheels. On a rear wheel drive vehicle (most 4wds) the rear hubs are constantly in a locked position and cannot be unlocked, also the diff is constantly engaged to the axles. When in 2wd (on a 4wd vehicle) with the front Hubs locked, 4x4 need to be selected for any drive to be transferred to the front wheels.
